About Us

Operation Access was founded in 1993 by two prominent surgeons and a former hospital executive with the goal of helping the uninsured gain access to healthcare. Today, the OA network includes over 60 referring community clinics, over 700 medical professionals, and 31  medical centers throughout the California Bay Area. Operation Access serves more than 1100 patients a year in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Sonoma counties.

Delivering on its mission, Operation Access provides much-needed medical care to patients while creating meaningful, local volunteer opportunities for medical professionals.

“In the past, it was easier for doctors to go to Guatemala or Southeast Asia to provide free surgical services to the needy than in their own communities.”

- Dr. Schecter, Co-Founder, Operation Access

Vision

Our vision is to bridge the healthcare gap in the San Francisco Bay Area, while becoming a national model for medical volunteerism.
